Carson City, NV – Carson City is seeking Community input on the City’s land use Master Plan update. On Saturdays in March, the Carson City Community Development Department will be hosting “Master Plan Update Meetings.” These events will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Carson City library, 900 North Roop Street on March 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30. A Spanish-speaking planner will be available on March 9, 16, and 30. This is part of the City’s outreach to inform and engage with the community about the current efforts and seek input from all community members.
In October 2023, the City entered into a contract with Clarion Associates, a national land use consulting firm, to help update its Land Use Master Plan. The Land Use Master Plan isn’t just a policy document; it is a visionary roadmap. It articulates the City’s goals, objectives, and policies relative to land development. The current plan was adopted in 2006. Since then, the freeway interchange with Highway 50 has opened, and there have been infrastructure improvements in the downtown corridor and South Carson Street. Also, technological advancements have changed the way we shop as well as the function of the workplace. Per the State demographer, the City’s population has increased by 5.24% in the 11 years between 2006 and 2022, which is the most current certified population data available.
According to Community Development Director Hope Sullivan, “We want to be accessible to everyone and let them know that the update process is happening, answer questions, and receive input. We are including a Spanish-speaking planner to better communicate with the Spanish speaking residents and business owners.”
